Callling all ebay traders and anyone who sends things using the post office
57Can you believe this?
Am I the only person on the planet who thought if I paid the additional 75p for recorded delivery that that was my item insured for up to £39? Well think again.
As it turns out you are insured up to £39 with a list of exclusions. For my money the two most important are money (as it happens!) and jewellery. So, that twenty quid you sent your niece for her birthday or that fun little £24.99 bracelet to your pal, should they go the way of the wind, have done exactly that. NO CLAIM!!
I have just found this out today, having shelled out lots of extra 75p's for the security I never had. I'm furious. I have been asked the value of the item at the post office but no one has ever mentioned there are exclusions- NEVER!!
Oh and there are lots of exclusion, I was advised today when I called customer services. For your information they include aerosols, explosives, lifestock ( I kid you not). When I suggested that people who send live animals need certified under the mental health act, he terminated the call.
If it is of any use to anyone to know this the only thing that the additional cost of recorded delivery gives you is signed proof of delivery. You get exactly the same insurance cover with 1st class delivery i.e. up to £39 provided you get a proof of postage certificate stamped at time of posting.
It seems there are leaflets explaining these things available in the post office. It seems it is encumbant upon us to inform ourselves. Consider yourself informed - either about the facts of recorded delivery or about the fact that I am sooooo out of step. Whatever!!

Hi K8e, this is something I didn't know either. Seems it's just like any other kind of insurance, constructed with so much wriggle room, that it's like a pea in a barrel!
